Bone and Tissue Injuries Related to Radiation
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for late radiation-induced tissue toxicity: prospectively patient-reported outcome measures in breast cancer patients (Teguh, et. al, 2016)
https://ro-journal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s13014-016-0700-0
Conclusions:
In these breast cancer patients with radiation injuries treated with HBOT, patients observed improvements. HBOT was a well-tolerated and any side-effects were reported as minimal and reversible.
Cystitis
Radiation-induced cystitis treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (RICH-ART): a randomised, controlled, phase 2–3 trial
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1470204519304942?casa_token=Pncvns8pgOAAAAAA:ymqFPdn6Ii-JgU3OJVEBaVlUu96EarcKYGarriH5NJZrxx9CzAD8f9YRLLX7BUBHNImnhUpl4Q
Conclusions:
The researchers results suggest that HBOT reduces the symptoms of late radiation cystitis and is a safe and well-tolerated treatment option.
Diabetic Ulcers
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Ischemic Foot Ulcers in Type 2 Diabetes: A Clinical Trial
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6131315/
Conclusions:
When compared to only standard wound care, HBOT with Standard wound area significantly more reduce the ulcer area and depth in diabetic patients. Participants were followed every week for 4 weeks and their ulcers were measured for their surface area and depth to assess any change in wound size.
Chronic Osteomyelitis
Effectiveness of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for the Management of Chronic Osteomyelitis: A Systematic Review of the Literature
Conclusions:
Researches reviewed 96 studies that looked at HBOT as a treatment option for Chronic Osteomyelitis. All patients had previously received antibiotics and debridement and were considered chronic osteomyelitis. They found that 308 (73.5%) of 419 patients with complete data had a successful outcome and no reported relapse, supporting that HBOT is beneficial in the healing of chronic osteomyelitis.
